COURSE DESCRIPTION

Engine Updates

2007 Series 60, MBE 900 / 4000 Product Update - 8925

Objective
The objective of this course is to provide On-Highway technicians with information regarding the changes in the operation, control, maintenance and repair on the 07 engine.

Description
2007 Product Update: Covers all three products. Includes components and systems review, advance use of DDDL and DDEC VI, hand on diagnostics exercises, after treatment system review and troubleshooting exercises.

Prerequisite
04 Certified on either engine, Series 60, MBE 900 or 4000, plus Web-based courses: 8928 - 2007 Basic Diagnostics, 8929 - 2007 ATS Introduction, 8930 - 2007 Update MBE4000, 8931-2007 Update MBE900 and 8932-2007 Update Series 60.


Engine Overhaul Class - 8950, 8960, 8970, 8980

60 Series Major Repair (3 Days)
MBE 900 Major Repair (3 Days)
MBE 4000 Major Repair (3 Days)
DD15 Major Repair (5 Days)

Covers a complete teardown and reassembly of engine, including tune-up and line operation of engine, preventive maintenance of engine and troubleshooting. Work clothes needed.

Advanced Diagnostics - 8930

This 4-day course is designed to give students a practical, comprehensive look at all phases of the troubleshooting process for 2007 and pre-2007 DDEC (Series 60) and MBE (900 and 4000) engines.

The material includes:

  • How to effectively gather and assess preliminary information prior to beginning the diagnostic process
    (including the first course on using DDCSN)
  • Understanding basic electrical concepts, tools, and wiring diagrams
  • Hands-on troubleshooting of faults using the latest electronic tools (including DDDL 7.x’s advanced diagnostic feature)
  • Practical problem solving using log and snapshot data
  • Practical problem solving methods to examine fuel economy issues
  • Practical problem solving for issues caused by incorrect parameter settings
  • Understanding cylinder diagnostics using electronic tools
  • Developing an effective methodology


MBE On-Highway Electronics (3 days)

This program covers the operation and installation of MBE electronic system. Lectures cover electronic components, wiring, basic electricity, function and operation of the system. Hands on programming of the PLD and VCU control modules with mini diag and reprogramming station. Troubleshooting using DDDL and mini diag.


AT 500 Series Overhaul (4 Days)
MT 600 Series Overhaul (5 Days)

These courses provide an understanding of the transmission operation, construction, service requirements, overhaul, and troubleshooting. Classroom topics include torque converter operation, power flows, clutches, retarder operation (where applicable), hydraulic control system, and preventive maintenance. The Service Manual and Parts Catalog will be used to disassemble , qualify parts for reuse, and reassemble the transmission.


DDEC III /IV and V On-Highway (4 days)

This program covers the operation and installation of the DDEC systems. The course includes the differences between DDEC IV and DDEC V reprogramming using the portable reprogramming station. Lectures on electronic components, wiring, basic electricity, functions of the system, troubleshooting and DDDL.


DOC – Diagnostic Optimized Connection Training (2 Days)

This program provides an understanding of the operation of the DOC (Diagnostic Optimized Connection) used with the 1000/2000/2400 Series Transmission and the WTEC II and WTEC III electronic controls. Understanding specific electronic input/output functions and circuitry, mandatory vehicle interface connections, systems diagnostics/troubleshooting, and reprogramming selected parameters are just a few of the subjects covered. Upon completion of the course, the student’s certificate (sent to SPX Corporation) allows activation of the reprogramming capability of the software. Before enrolling in this program, the student should have a thorough understanding of the WTEC II and III components, operating principles, and interface.


Notes:

  • Apply at least 3 weeks prior to starting date of class.
  • Motel expense, food registration and transportation are student responsibility.
  • Students should have mechanical background to realize the greatest benefit.
  • Students should wear clothing suitable to disassemble engine on the first day.
